Although it is a little late in the year, ideas for inexpensive gifts never go out of fashion. After all, we all love to receive gifts, even if we have a tough time choosing the right gift for the right person. But gifting can be fun and it really doesn’t have to burn a hole in your pocket. By keeping your eyes peeled and following the newspapers closely, you can find and source out inexpensive gifts for your friends and loved ones.

Although it might sound a tad cheap, a garage sale is often a great place to find and buy some inexpensive gifts. A lot of people throw away relatively good stuff that most others would find extremely interesting. At one garage sale, I found a set of perfectly good platinum discs of my favorite record artiste. And fortunately for me, I also knew a friend who was equally fond of this very artiste. So guess what he got from me the next time around? In another garage sale, I found a set of uniquely shaped salt and pepper shakers. Not only were they made of ivory (seriously!) but they were also in near mint condition and came with their matching packaging boxes intact. I grabbed them not sure if the owner had thrown them away out of oversight or just plain negligence. But that Christmas, a couple of my dear friends were very happy to get hold of these ivory salt and pepper shakers indeed!

If getting your gifts from a garage sale makes you cringe, maybe the next best thing would be a discount sale. I am very fortunate that the country I live in has a discount sale nearly every week. And I scan the newspapers on a daily basis to keep a lookout for any such discount sales. I can confidently say that I come across at least one such discount sale nearly every month. And as the festive season draws closer, the frequency of these sales increase. I have often found that such sales help me source and secure inexpensive gifts for various people.

Finally my favorite option for inexpensive gifts happen to be (don’t cringe) gifts that I have received that I am not particularly fond of. I usually store these gifts for a while before I get them out, re-package them and offer them to other people who might appreciate them more. I take care however to ensure that I don’t make the mistake of giving these inexpensive gifts back to the original givers.
