Construction toys provide an excellent opportunity for children to learn, communication, interpersonal skills, and to be able to exercise their fine motor abilities. These types of toys are great at educating children.

Children of all ages enjoy building things and taking them apart. Construction type toys can hold a child's attention span and will encourage them to use their imagination as they create their own ideas. In addition, building sets have come a long way since the days of Tinker toys and Lincoln logs. Many now have battery-operated parts and sound effects much to the delight of the children.

Construction sets now come with specialized pieces that include characters from their favorite movies or cartoons. When shopping for construction toys, seek out dynamic building sets - those with no one right or wrong way to construct the building projects. If you purchase these types of construction sets, they will have a longer life with your children. Lines of action figures, like Bionicle, which is a toy that a child can build and then use to play in whatever fashion they wan to, are also great choices. When a child plays with these types of toys, they will develop self-esteem and confidence in children by empowering them with choices and by organizing stimulating play activities.

These types of toys create timing and an environment for independent play is beneficial for children of any age. Helping your child develop a strong, independent personality supports their awareness of feelings, dreams, and ideas. Independent play fosters reflective and analytical thought and gives children their own private space and time. For children, the ability to pretend and imagine is an essential form of play. As children's imaginations grow, they will make-up new ideas for using the same objects. Encouraging children's imagination during play opens doors to increased learning experiences in every area of their development.

Playing with construction and building blocks involves children in problem solving activities, reasoning, and sequencing. Children will use abstract thought and develop logic and problem solving skills. Developing these kinds of skills will of course help the child develop a strong foundation for future learning. These types of toys teach children to develop knowledge in the basic concepts of math and other fine motor abilities. While playing with construction toys, children learn categorization, sequencing, patterning, and quantifying, which help build a strong foundation for understanding math in the future.

 Quote of the Day
Most baby books also tend to romanticize the mother who stays at home, as if she really spends her entire day doing nothing but beaming at the baby and whipping up educational toys from pieces of string, rather than balancing cooing time with laundry, cleaning, shopping and cooking.
—Susan Chira (20th century)

Promote and develop children's physical athletic ability, manual dexterity, and/or eye-hand coordination. Many people associate fine motor skills with the way a child holds a pencil, crayons, or scissors, but it is much more. Human development progresses from the head down and from the torso outward, so the use of hands and fingers are actually the last part of the development process. You can enhance a child's fine motor development early in life by giving them opportunities to refine large motor skills. Begin with big pieces of puzzles, clay, or big crayons and combine these tools with activities such as coloring in a coloring book. Playing with manipulative toys such as shape sorters, activity centers, lacing toys, and puzzles help children develop fine eye-hand coordination skills. Fine motor skills involve muscles of the hands, eyes, face, and mouth, and mastering these skills completes critical pathways to development.

Lego is a line of toys featuring colorful plastic bricks, gears, minifigures that when assembled can create models of anything they can think of. The great quality of production and careful attention to the many details provided from this toy ensure that the pieces meld together in hundreds of different ways, which is one of the main reasons for the toy's success.

Capsela utilizes the principles found in physics and engineering and packages them in easy-to-use capsules. Each package has a different function and they contain every conceivable piece required to create whatever you can think of. They also dismantle easily, so redesigning and rebuilding your models is a snap.

Play with Erector sets is a step up for those children who love to build and desire more freedom in the creative processes. The children use screws and details to continue expanding on the creativity and you have almost total flexibility when aligning parts. Children get a chance to explore abstract 3D shapes because connections are not limited to a fixed grid pattern.
