Nothing gets a toddler walking more than push and pull toys. Of course, these toys need to be fun and stimulating to catch your child's attention in the first place! For that reason, you want to be sure to choose the very best toys that can be pushed or pulled available.
Pull Along Thomas
The "Pull Along Thomas" by Tomy is a great pull toy for any child who is beginning to become mobile. It is an especially good choice for children who have a love for Thomas the Tank Engine, but any child will certainly enjoy it. The friendly-faced Thomas leads the way, with Annie and Clarabel in tow. As your child pulls Thomas and his friends along, he chugs and whistles and the coaches bounce faithfully behind.
The sound effects will be a hit with your child, but they can become a little loud and troublesome to adults. Thankfully, Tomy has thought about this and has included an off switch on the toy. As your child gets older, he will be able to turn it off and on by himself.
Peek-A-Blocks: Sort & Roll School Bus
The "Peek-A-Blocks: Sort & Roll School Bus" is manufactured by Fisher-Price. The fun toy, which is designed to look like a school bus, can be pushed or pulled by your child. In addition to being able to roll the bus, your child will have a great time lifting the hood and playing with the large, baby-friendly blocks. At the same time, she can learn how to sort shapes such as squares, triangles, and circles by squeezing the blocks in through a sliding cover on the right side window. Other toys, such as a spinning apple, a hanging pencil, a lunch bag with milk and a sandwich, and a booklet add to the "school" theme. Flashing lights and music will be your baby's reward when she pulls the wagon along using the handle that can be neatly tucked away when not in use.
Toddle Tunes Push Along
| Bit of History |
If, during his daily walk, he met any children flying kites, playing marbles, or whirling peg tops, he would buy the toys from them and exhort them not to gamble or indulge in vain sport.

The "Toddle Tunes Push Along" by I-Play Outdoors is a fantastic toy that can be either pushed or pulled. This is a variation of the old-fashioned corn popper toys, but I-Play Outdoors has greatly improved upon the original concept. With two choices for music, your child can be rewarded with a song after just barely pushing this toy. Or, she can bring about different notes as long as she continues to move the toy along. The faster she pushes or pulls the Toddle Tunes Push Along, the faster the music plays! For your sanity, I-Play Outdoors has also included a volume control button, allowing for the toy to be quiet when needed.
Learning Band Walker
The "Learning Band Walker" by LeapFrog is an innovative variation on old-fashioned walkers. The your toddler is not strapped in or restricted in any way while using this walker, which is designed to be pushed. As your child pushes the walker along, she will be delighted to see that she has the power to make the red drum inside spin and the pipe organs move in beat with the "ABC" song. Or, the song can be switched to a fun walk-along song that encourages your child to take his first steps. Either way, real instrument sounds are used to help your baby begin to develop an appreciation for music. With a parent controlled volume gauge, it is easy to choose the right amount of sound. The Learning Band Walker also explores colors and shapes. This push along toy can also be converted to a sit-down toy, making it a very versatile and fun-learning toy.
Wooden Pull-Along Stacking Zoo Animals
The "Wooden Pull-Along Stacking Zoo Animals" toy by Melissa & Doug is a fantastic design that will be enjoyed by your child for many years. This toy, which is comprised of a wooden elephant, giraffe, and zebra, can be easily pulled behind your child. You child will adore the colorful animals and will enjoy mixing and matching the included blocks. While this toy does not have the "bells and whistles" of many of the other pull along toys, the simplicity will go far in delighting your child.
Pull and push toys come in a variety of forms and designs. With so many to choose from, you are guaranteed to find one that your child will love and will beg to play with more.
