Traveling with children can be trying on both parents and their kids. The monotony, stress, and boredom of travel can easily put a damper on even the happiest of travels. What to do? Most parents rely on their child's favorite toys to keep them busy and happy while on the road. But some toys simply weren't designed for travel. Here are seven toys that are ideal for the often-tough conditions that go with life on the go.
1. Etch-a-Sketch. Most travel toys are handheld and compact, and the classic Etch-a-Sketch is all of this and more. The Etch-a-Sketch is both fun and time-consuming, making it the perfect toy for long trips in the backseat. The Etch-a-Sketch also promotes your child's creativity and artistic side, helps improve motor skills and cognitive abilities, and it's just plain fun. For your child, consider the Etch-a-Sketch Book. It includes an Etch-a-Sketch, and a book that details fun drawing projects and ideas for your child to create.
2. Are We There Yet? DVD. Not technically a toy your child can hold and play with, this DVD is a great idea if your vehicle is equipped with a DVD player. Instead of popping in the same old Disney movie, this DVD is specifically designed to entertain and educate your child during those long car trips. The DVD introduces young children to Miles the Goose, who teaches children new songs, jokes, and games aimed at improving vocabulary, reading, and other early literacy skills. With games like "Alphabet Snoop," "Car Colors," and "Rain Drop Race," your child will learn and have fun on the road. The DVD is priced at $14.99 and is recommended for children aged 3-8.
3. The MadLibs Vacation Pack. Who doesn't recall the fun of playing MadLibs as a child? That wacky MadLibs is back, and better than ever. MadLibs has always been an easy and fun way for children to pass the time. Fun, silly and hilarious, MadLibs is also very educational. To play, children must understand the definition of an adverb, adjective, noun, proper noun, and standard grammar definitions. MadLibs promotes a child's sense of adventure and creativity, sharpens their vocabulary and grammar skills, and allows them to have a silly good time. The MadLibs Vacation pack includes two MadLibs books: MadLibs on the Road and Vacation Fun MadLibs. Both books are written with the theme of travel in mind, which will resonate with your child. At $6.00 retail, MadLibs Vacation Pack is also one of the most economical ways to have a good time.
